HENRIETTA BARNETT 11+ · A PARENT’S GUIDE

Two rounds. Different skills. A clearer practice plan.

Looking for Henrietta Barnett practice papers? Start by separating the two entrance-test rounds, try free examples, then choose the subject your child needs to revisit.

EQ offers nine original HBS-related subject papers. £5 buys one paper; £15 buys three papers in one subject. Every paper includes printable questions, worked answers and one online sitting.

The preview needs no sign-up or payment. EQ’s subject papers are independent practice; they do not recreate a complete entrance-test round. Non-verbal reasoning and assessed written English are not included.

How does the Henrietta Barnett entrance test work?

The school’s admissions page describes two stages of academic selection:

  • Round one: English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning. The school links to GL Assessment familiarisation for this round.
  • Round two: English and Mathematics for candidates invited back.

Maths is not listed as a separate round-one subject. When choosing resources, distinguish first-round language and reasoning practice from preparation for the later English and Maths assessments.

Use the right entry year

For September 2027 entry, both tests have taken place: round one was on 2, 3 and 4 September 2026; round two was on 6 October 2026. The school says parents of round-two candidates have been emailed with next steps.

For September 2028 entry, a full timetable was not published on the admissions page when checked on 16 October 2026. Do not reuse the previous cycle’s dates. Check the school’s current announcements before planning registration or tests.

Entrance-test registration and your home council’s secondary-school application are separate steps. Read the school’s 2027-entry FAQs and 2027–28 admissions policy for that cohort; use the policy for your child’s entry year when a new one is published.

Use the official route to understand the first-round question styles, and EQ’s preview to judge whether our explanations suit your child.

EQ’s preview uses questions from our free mixed-subject taster, not extracts from a paid paper. It demonstrates our question and explanation style; it does not establish full-paper difficulty. Jump to English, Maths or verbal reasoning.

These timers and question counts are EQ practice settings. The English papers do not assess written responses for round two. The Maths papers do not reproduce the school’s second-round paper. None of these papers includes non-verbal reasoning or simulates a complete round.

Each £15 subject bundle gives you Papers 1–3: 150 questions, six PDF booklets and three separate online sittings. It costs the same as three £5 singles and contains the same papers. Check previous purchases to avoid duplicates.

Download from My papers within 90 days of payment and keep copies for the licensed learner’s private practice. Printing is at your own cost. These single papers and bundles are one-off purchases with digital delivery.

Build a plan around the skill, not just the score

  1. Read and explain. Try the free English examples. Ask your child which words support an answer and why another choice is less convincing. Discuss unfamiliar vocabulary in its sentence.
  2. Make the rule visible. For verbal reasoning, say the relationship or code aloud before choosing. Check how many answers the item asks for; do not assume every question uses the same instruction.
  3. Keep Maths reasoning on paper. Even with multiple-choice practice, write the steps, draw a diagram when useful and check units. A correct option without a clear method is a useful prompt for discussion.
  4. Plan for the gaps. Use the school-linked resources for non-verbal reasoning and allow separate time for writing. An EQ subject bundle does not cover every HBS requirement.
  5. Review before another full paper. Pick one or two ideas to revisit without a timer, then try fresh questions later. Paper numbers identify different sets, not calibrated difficulty levels.

Keep answer booklets with the supervising adult and any notes about your child’s work private. Leave space for ordinary reading, schoolwork and rest.

Before you buy

Are these official Henrietta Barnett or GL papers?

No. EQ creates original independent subject practice and is not affiliated with or endorsed by The Henrietta Barnett School or GL Assessment. Official resources linked above remain on their publishers’ websites.

Can an EQ mark predict an offer?

No. It is a practice mark, not an official HBS result, ranking or admission prediction. Independent teacher moderation and pupil timing calibration remain outstanding. Read our scoring and comparison policy.

Should we choose a single paper or a bundle?

Start with a £5 single if you want to try one full subject session. Choose the £15 bundle if you want all three different papers in that subject. There is no discount, and buying both can duplicate a paper.

Can we print a paper and then sit it online?

Yes, but both formats contain the same questions. Printed work is self-marked and is not uploaded or benchmarked. Downloading either booklet before completing the online sitting excludes that sitting from the first-sitting comparison cohort; its mark and worked feedback remain available.
